The Mercer Museum in Doylestown is a six-story reinforced concrete castle designed by Henry Mercer (1856-1930) and completed in 1916. Today, it is one of Bucks County’s premier cultural attractions and a Smithsonian affiliate.
The museum complex features local and national traveling exhibits, as well as a core museum collection of over 17,000 pre-Industrial tools.
This permanent collection offers visitors a unique window into pre-Industrial America through sixty different crafts and trades, and is one of the world’s most comprehensive portraits of pre-Industrial American material culture.
The trip will take place rain or shine and will be limited to 10 FitC members.
Cost: $14 (includes $1 for FitC costs) Museum tickets will be purchased ahead of time. No refunds for registration cancellation. SEPTA Regional Rail is free with your SEPTA Senior Fare card.
Where we'll meet: Suburban Station, where we'll take SEPTA Regional rail to Doylestown using the SEPTA Senior Fare card.
The train will departs Suburban Station at 9:17 am (look for FitC sign at platform entrance). Arrival time in Doylestown is scheduled at 10:39 am. FitC folks can chat along the way.
Where we'll go: The Museum is a 10 minute walk from the train station.
Accessibility: The museum has an elevator and some spaces are partially accessible due to narrow passageways
After the museum: You'll be free to explore downtown Doylestown. While you'll be welcome to join Bob and Gerry for lunch, Bob will provide details about other lunch options.
Trains back are scheduled to leave at 1:11 pm 2:11 pm, 3:11 pm, 4:11 pm and later, arriving at Suburban Station a little over an hour later.
