The Penn Museum has been excavating in Mesopotamia since the 1880's. The most recent dig occurred about two years ago.
All that experience and over 1000 objects are poured into the Middle East Gallery. The items on display form a path from early agricultural villages to early cities, city-states, then to empires. Along that road we'll see the invention of much of our current urban society.
The full story of how all this happened may never be known, but we now know much more about what we didn't know, and what we may have learned about this process. Surprises await.
Our tour leader is FitC member Mark Curchack, a retired anthropologist who has guided FitC groups on a number of tours--all of which have been enjoyed and appreciated. Thanks for repeating this one, Mark!
