Because the Schuylkill Walk to the Crescent was postponed due to rain, there are suddenly several openings for tomorrow's Rain Date. Some registrants could not make the rain date.
If you are interested in joining the walk tomorrow, Thursday, May 29 at 1:00pm, just register below.
We meet UNDER the Walnut Street Bridge . Contact pamfreyd@earthlink.net if you have questions.
Join John Randolph on a walk to see the newest section of the Schuylkill Trail direct to the Gray’s Ferry Crescent.

Our walk starts on the trail under the Walnut Street Bridge on the Schuylkill River Trail where we will learn how the trail was developed and what the banks of the Schuylkill River used to be like. Highlight of the walk will be seeing the new section of the trail that opens on May 17 taking us directly to the Gray’s Ferry Crescent.
The Christian to Crescent trail segment is the final link needed to provide an entirely off-road route between Center City and the Grays Ferry Crescent for pedestrians and cyclists. This was a difficult trail segment to design and construct because the area is still industrially active and the riverbank narrows for a portion of its length. In order to complete this segment, a cable supported bridge was constructed along the east river and (shown in the photo above).
The walk will be approximately 2.5 miles with some easy ups and downs. Good shoes, sun protection and water are musts. We will return by taking the #12 Septa bus at the Grays Ferry Bridge back to 22nd and Locust Streets. The bus then continues East on Locust.

No one knows more about the trail and the history of the Schuylkill than John Randolph. An architect, Randolph helped create the Schuylkill River Development Council in 1992 and it was that group that allowed the first section of the trail to become a reality in 2004.
We suggest that you prepare for this walk by watching an excellent video about the history of the Schuylkill River and its revival at: https://vimeo.com/823509647
We will meet under the East side of the Walnut Street Bridge. There is a staircase at the beginning of the bridge on Walnut Street that provides the easiest access. There will be a map and picture in the registration acknowledgment.
