Join FitC volunteer Bob Schmidt for an easy (mostly downhill”) walk along the Cynwyd Heritage Trail, which begins at the Cynwyd SEPTA Regional Station and ends with a downhill stroll into Manayunk.
After a brief train ride from Suburban Station, we will explore the sights along the Trail, including West Laurel Hill Cemetery, the Manayunk Canal, and the 110-year-old former railroad bridge that carries the trail into Philadelphia. We will learn how the Trail came about, from its origin as an active Pennsylvania Railroad line to becoming one of the area’s most enjoyable outdoor amenities.
Possible dining options: At the end of the walk, everyone is free to enjoy
Manayunk, and the organizer will offer suggestions for places to eat should
anyone care to linger.
Event Limit: 12 FitC Members.
Event Cost: Free (no charge for SEPTA transportation for holders of SEPTA Senior Fare Card).
Accessibility: There are elevators at Suburban Station, accessible
from both the 16th and 17th St. Entrances. At Cynwyd Station, riders will need to step down from the train to a low-level platform. The Cynwyd Heritage trail is one and a half miles in length, mostly downhill, as is the descent onto Main St. in Manayunk.
