Join FitC volunteer Bob Schmidt for a guided tour of Cliveden, one of the 19 historic sites in the Germantown neighborhood. Built for attorney Benjamin Chew in 1767, Cliveden is most famous as the site of t he Battle of Germantown in 1777 during the Revolutionary War. The people enslaved by the Chew family are also part of the history of the site. Cliveden is situated on 5 and a half wooded acres, and during our visit we will explore the grounds as well as the main house.
Event Limit: 15 FitC Members
Event Cost: $11 ($10 +$1 FitC fee). Deadline for refunds is June 11 (less $2 FitC Refund fee).
Accessibility: There are 2 entrances to Cliveden, one on Germantown
Avenue and another on Cliveden St. Both are wheelchair accessible. Because the main house dates from the 18th century, there will be stairs and some tight
spaces. If coming by train (see below), there are steps at the train station.
